The Country Hotel Castle di Vicarello is near Grosseto in Tuscan Maremma. It was the mysterious Etruscans who first discovered the hillcock shrouded beneath a star-filled sky, situated at the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. Only after a number of centuries did the Romans construct a spa on the site of the ancient ruins, upon which in 1112, the present Castello di Vicarello was built, and which today has been transformed into an exclusive country residence.
Vicarello is a place where the eye is continually lost in the undulating green of the countryside all the way down to the blue Tuscan sea, a charming residence in which to discover Time, silence, and history, as every path, every brick, every wall is stronger than any attempt to tell it’s story, and more intense than any dream can imagine. Vicarello is a country dwelling both sophisticated and modern, with every comfort and exclusive amenity which has been realised in perfect harmony with the splendidly preserved natural surroundings; a thoughtful work of conservative restauration and an impeccably elegant interior design. The estate’s roses, lavander, jasmine and rosemary bushes, centuries-old olive trees and wine groves, cultivated just as they were in the middle ages, will bring joy to those who love the taste of regional flavours and wines, during their stay at the retreat.
The refined taste of the proprietors Aurora e Carlo Baccheschi Berti, is reflected in the welcoming nature of the interiors, the environmentally-friendly architecture, the swimming pool overlooking the Maremma countryside, as well as the elegant and refined interior design. The careful restoration has managed to use the red brick and old stone work, the original wood beams and terracotta tiling to their best effect, while the interior’s furnishing is born out of a marriage between antique furniture and frescoes, modern design and decorative elements garnered from every corner of the globe, brought in to harmony with the brickwork of the centuries-old Castello. The garden, which is a central component in the architectural restoration work carried out by garden designer, Giuppi Pietromarchi, has been conceived with rigour and simplicity.
